Most Anticipated Movies in 2013 - View on Film

Happy New Year!  Welcome to 2013!  I thought 2012 was a very strong year in movies, and I'm hoping for the same in 2013.  Here's a primer on what to expect this year!

February 14th - A Good Day to Die Hard-

One of the oddest movie openings on Valentine's Day....but what the hey, John McClaine is back!  I actually quite enjoyed Die Hard 4.0, and I'm looking forward to this.  Die Hard continues to be one of the finest actioners ever.

March 3rd- Oz, The Great and Powerful-

Sam Raimi, who helmed the original Spider Man series, returns with a new Oz adventure....focusing on the eventual Wizard of Oz played by James Franco.

May 3rd- Iron Man 3

New writer/director Shane Black takes over the franchise, as the first film post-Avengers for Marvel.  Marvel's Phase One ended with the Avengers, and Phase Two begins here.  Don't expect any of Shellhead's Avengers buddies to show up, this is a solo adventure, with just War Machine helping out.

May 10th- The Great Gatsby-

Delayed from this year, is Baz Luhrman's Great Gatsby.  I cannot wait for this, with Leonardo DiCaprio in the title role.  Leo is a great talent, and this should be the perfect project for him.

May 17th- Star Trek Into Darkness

Happily, the crew of the Enterprise return.  The last movie, rebooting the franchise, was such a surprise delight, that mucho expectations have been laid onto this sequel.  Not much is known about the movie as of yet, but it looks quite tasty.

May 24th- Hangover Part III

Let's hope the Wolf Pack improves on the very disappointing Hangover Part II.  I absolutely loved the first one, and am hoping for a return to greatness for this series.

June 14th-  Man of Steel-

Here we go again!  ANOTHER origin tale for Superman....with a decidedly darker tone.  300/Watchmen director Zack Snyder takes the reigns in a franchise/character that Warner Brothers is desperate to resonate again.  We'll see this Summer.

June 21st- Monster's University-

Pixar returns with their sequel to Monster's Inc.  The cast returns, in what hopefully will be better than Pixar's last sequel, Cars 2.

July 3rd- The Lone Ranger-

Johnny Depp teams up with Gore Verbinski, his director from the first three Pirates films, for an expensive Western where he plays Tonto.  Armie Hammer from the Social Network plays the Masked Man.  Who knows what to expect, but it should be at least fun.

July 26th- The Wolverine-

Please let this not be horrible!  The last Wolverine solo film was, to say the least, disappointing.  This one hopefully makes up for it.  This time, Wolverine is in Japan.  I'm cautiously optimistic for this one.

August 9th- Elysium-

Color me intrigued on this one.  Matt Damon, and the director of District 9, unite for a futuristic tale.  Not much is known yet, but I'll be there opening night.

November 8th- Thor: The Dark World-

Marvel's Phase two hits it's 2nd part with the sequel to Thor.  The last one surprised me at how good it was, and this one will be guided by the director of a few of the Game of Thrones episodes.  The entire cast will return from the original.

November 22nd- Hunger Games: Catching Fire-

Book two of the Hunger Games trilogy comes to theaters.  The first film exceeded expectations with its box office haul....expect that to continue here.  The 3rd book will be split into two movies to follow this one.

December 13th- The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug-

Here's your 2nd movie....of a book split into three movies.  Not my cup of tea, but plenty of folks seem to dig it.  Weird title for a movie though!

December 20th- Anchorman: The Legend Continues-

And finally, Will Ferrell returns to arguably his most famous role.  The entire crew is coming back.....trying to keep it classy in San Diego.

There you go, plenty to look forward to!

Happy New Year!
