Wrath of the Titans - View on Film

Wrath of the Titans-

Good Friday everyone!

Here's the sequel to Clash of the Titans.  Didn't much care for the original, but was hopefully they'd correct their mistakes this time.  Find out if they did in my review below.

Have a great weekend!

New on DVD 3/27 - View on Film

Good Tuesday!  Hope you're having a good start to your week.....here's a short list of what's new this week!

Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close-

Tom Hanks and Sandra Bullock star in a 9/11 drama, which got incredibly mixed reviews for the talent involved.  It got a 47% rating from Rottentomatoes.com.

Alvin and the Chipmunks 3- Chip Wrecked-

Ugh.  Kids love it.....but let the insanity end!  Rottentomatoes.com gives it a very low 13%.

That's it!  Have a great week....Wrath of the Titans review this Friday!

Cheers,

The Hunger Games - View on Film

The Hunger Games-

It's here, the first blockbuster of the year.  I had not read the books, but the premise is so tantalizing, I looked forward to seeing it.  Below is my full review.

Have a great weekend!

New on DVD - 3/20/12

Good Day!  Another busy week with new releases, so let's get to it!

Girl with the Dragon Tattoo-

One of the best films from last year!  This is the U.S. adaption of the best selling novels.  Good and Grisly.....Craig and Mara are great in the two leads.

The Muppets-

Super fun movie for the whole family.  Nice to see the Muppets again.  A real winning movie.

The Sitter-

Not a bad offering from Jonah Hill.  Not to be taken seriously in the least!  There are some laughs, and I do lightly recommend it.

Hop- (Coming out Friday 3/23)

For fans of Alvin and the Chipmunks/Smurfs, here's more animated characters interacting with human actors.  Rottentomatoes.com gives it a low 26%.

Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy-

I will definitely be seeing this On Demand this week.  Check it out to see Gary Oldman's Oscar Nominated performance.  Rottentomatoes.com gives it a nice 83%.

Busy week!  Have a great one!

Cheers!

21 Jump Street - View on Film

21 Jump Street-

Hey folks, sorry for the late on Friday review.  Sometimes, I'm forced to see the new movie of the week, on Friday afternoon.  This is one of those times.  It's also in a different format than usual, since I did it live, with Guest Kristi Paulus.

Hope you enjoy the review, and have a great St. Patty's Weekend!

Cheers!

New on DVD 3/13 - View on Film

Good Tuesday!  Big day for releases today, including one of my favorites!

The Descendants-

Wow is this a good movie.  George Clooney again proves he's a great actor here.  He shuns his usual cooler than cool persona, and plays a rudderless man who while tending to his critically injured wife, finds out she was cheating on him.  Great movie, don't miss it.  Below is my original review.

The Adventures of Tintin-

I'm looking forward to being able to see this.  I have my parents who said they really enjoyed it with their kids.  Rottentomatoes.com gives it a fresh 74%.

My Week with Marilyn-

It's your chance to see the Oscar Nominated performance by Michelle Williams as the Iconic Marilyn Monroe.  Rottentomatoes.com gives it a fresh 83%.

Young Adult-

I'll be watching this today On Demand.  This film got forgotten during the holidays, but with Jason Reitman directing (Up in the Air/Juno), sign me up!  Rottentomatoes.com gives it a fresh 81%.

That's it for the big releases!  Have a great Tuesday and Week!  Spring is here next week!

Cheers!

John Carter - View on Film

Good Friday!  We have Disney's John Carter Today....and I can't believe I feel I need to champion a $250 million dollar movie!  But with Disney's mishandling of the marketing, I feel I must.  See my review below....enjoy your weekend!

Cheers!

New on DVD 3/6 - View on Film

Good Tuesday everyone!  The two big releases this week slipped through my viewing eyes....but two other releases are favorites of mine.

Footloose (2011)-

In the update of the Kevin Bacon 80's Classic, comes the reboot with young hotties.  It has a very fresh 70% from RottenTomatoes.com.

Immortals-

In what can best be called 300 lite, we get our future new Superman, Henry Cavill doing battle with Immortals.  This has a not so fresh 36% from RottenTomatoes.com.

Game of Thrones-

Oh Boy did I enjoy this series from HBO.  With the new season premiering on April 1st, they want to get everyone caught up.  I didn't expect to, but I LOVED this, and that's coming from someone who is lukewarm towards the Lord of the Rings trilogy.  Mucho fun, and plot twists galore....definitely worth your time!

Monty Python and the Holy Grail (Blu Ray)-

And finally, one of the most influential films of the 70's comes to Blu Ray.  I've seen it countless times.  This one has bonus material to boot, but nothing new if you own the last DVD release.

Have a great week!  Cheers!

Jason

RIP Ralph McQuarrie - View on Film

Ralph McQuarrie- 1929-2012

Wow, I am at a loss.  Ralph McQuarrie was a man, for whom if he hadn't existed, Star Wars may have never been.  George Lucas knew he would have a tough time selling his vision for Star Wars to the suits at the studios, so he commissioned art from a Boeing Employee to give an idea of what George had in mind.  It worked.  Here's a look at the work he did.  He created art, and storyboards for numerous projects.  Check out his website for more.  http://www.ralphmcquarrie.com/

Personally, as I child I loved to look at his art.  I was thrilled when I could buy posters of it at the Star Tours ride at Disneyland.  He will be missed.

Project X Review - View on Film

Project X-

This would be a good film for parents to show their teenage kids if they leave for the weekend.  A party goes out of control, and its in the paranormal activity/Blair Witch style of film making.  Below is my full review.  Next Week John Carter.

Cheers,

Jason
