Most Anticipated Movies for 2014

Welcome to 2014!

Now, the big guns are coming next year (James Bond, Star Wars 7, Avengers 2), but we a great slate of films this year.  Here's a list of the most anticipated....either by me or the masses.

February 7th - Monuments Men

What a movie to have in February!  George Clooney's epic was delayed from late last year, so they could get the film tone just right.  The film is about artists enlisted into the US Army, charged with saving art stolen by the Nazis.  Bill Murray, John Goodman, and Matt Damon join George in the all star cast.  Should be fun!

March 21st- Muppets Most Wanted

The Muppets return this Spring!  I enjoyed the last one.  This one will be mostly without "How I Met Your Mother" star Jason Segal, but Ricky Gervais is a nice addition to the cast.

April 7th- Captain America: The Winter Soldier

Marvel continues its assault on the Box Office.  We will see Cap, Black Widow, and Director Fury from the Avengers.  This film will introduce The Falcon, and the Winter Soldier.  Robert Redford is also in the cast as the head of SHIELD.  Early word is this could be a great film.  This will set up Avengers 2 next May.

May 23rd- X-men: Days of Future Past
Oh boy!  Both casts will unite for a time travel extravaganza with Xmen 1 and 2 director Bryan Singer returns to helm.  This is 20th Century Fox's answer to Disney's Avengers.  Its the most expensive film, next to Avatar, in Fox's history.

May 30th- Maleficent

Angelina Jolie stars as a different take on the villain from Sleeping Beauty.  This could be a beautiful film.  The first look of the film is striking.

June 27th- Transformer: Age of Extinction
Mark Wahlberg joins the cast, with a bit of a reboot for America's favorite robots.  I have a disconnect with these films, but there's no denying their popularity.  Wahlberg's on a roll, we'll see if it continues here.

August 1st- Guardians of the Galaxy
In the biggest question mark, and gamble of the year, Marvel unleashes the little known Guardians of the Galaxy.  This is a big budget Space Opera, with a walking and talking tree, and a testy talking Raccoon.  This will either be a monster hit, or Marvel's first bust.

September 26th- The Equalizer
Denzel Washington stars in an adaption of the old CBS series, the Equalizer.  Any film where Denzel is kicking butt, I'm there!

November 11th- Interstellar
The director of the Dark Knight series, Christopher Nolan, returns with Interstellar, starring the red hot Matthew McConaughey.  The production is under a veil of mystery, as most of Nolan's movies are.  Matt Damon who shot some scenes for the film, says it could be something special.

November 21st- The Hunger Games: Mockingbird Part 1
Jennifer Lawrence returns as Katniss Everdeen in the beginning of the end for the Hunger Games series.  I won't spoil the end of the 2nd film, but this sequel will head into a much different arena for the last two films.  I have friends who read the series who say this is the weakest of the three books.  I'm hopeful the filmmakers find a way to keep this great series on top.

December 17th- The Hobbit: There and Back Again
The Hobbit series comes to an end here.  This should be Peter Jackson's final trip to Middle Earth.

Cheers!
